SH: I'm trying to decide what to eat for dessert. I want some cookies, but if I don't eat the rest of the pear tart, you'll eat it.
Me: What do you mean?
SH: You'll say I had my chance and I lost it.
Me: All you have to do is put dibs on it. Didn't your parents teach you anything? Sheesh.

Mmmmm, pear tart. Dibs!
OH - my daughter and I made an apple strudel last weekend. You're right, it was much easier than I expected, although I used Rose Levy Berenbaum's method as a guideline rather than JOC. Now I want to do a savory version...as soon as I get rid of all these stinkin' Thanksgiving leftovers.
Yes, dibs, of course. But haven't you also told him that after a certain amount of time the statute of limitations on "dibs" is up??? Or am I confusing you with another crazy, hysterical couple???
Jan, make a savory strudel with the turkey. Turkey, some cheese, maybe some onion, some stuffing. Oh man that sounds good.
Maureen, you are right. Dibs lasts only so long. But it will hold for one night.
Jan, try this soup with your turkey carcass. I made it with the smoked chicken carcass and omigosh is it fabulous. http://homesicktexan.blogspot.com/2009/11/tex-mex-chicken-and-dumplings-recipe.html
Because there are more than 2 people in my childhood household, there were warning notes on the last piece of something. Always including a drawing of the skull and crossbones. We use it now in the house where I reign as Mom. Another nice rule I have for my house since my kids are older is the baker gets the last piece. (Usually that's me!)
